Newsflash:

Tell Congress Stop Escalating the War in Syria

Since 2011, the CIA has coordinated the delivery of at least 70 planeloads of weapons from Qatar to Turkey, Saudi-funded shipments of arms from Croatia to Jordan and shipments of fighters and weapons from Libya to Turkey in unmarked NATO planes.  Now, after militarizing the conflict in Syria has led to almost 100,000 deaths, including 35,500 civilians, and despite only 20% public support for this policy, the US has begun directly arming the Syrian and foreign forces fighting to overthrow the Syrian government, and may launch a "no-fly-zone" bombing campaign.

Senators Udall (NM), Murphy (CT), Paul (KY) and Lee (UT) have introduced a bill to stop further escalation of the war in Syria, "The Protecting Americans from the Proliferation of Weapons to Terrorists Act of 2013".  The bill includes an explicit exception for genuine humanitarian assistance, which is still desperately needed.

Please send the following message to your Senators and Representative to support this vital legislation and demand that the US instead put its full diplomatic weight behind an immediate ceasefire in Syria and a political transition based on the Geneva Agreement of June 30th 2012.  If you can, please also call your Representative and Senators to deliver this message in person.

Progressive Democrats of America

Progressive Democrats of America

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites-with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. As a grassroots PAC operating inside the Democratic Party, and outside in movements for peace and justice, PDA played a key role in the stunning electoral victories of November 2006 and 2008. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles.

For over two decades, the party declined as its leadership listened more to the voices of corporations than those of Americans. PDA strives to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up-from every congressional district to statewide party structures to the corridors of power in Washington, where we work arm in arm with the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In just a couple of years PDA and its allies have shaken up the political status-quo on issues from ending the Iraq war, voter rights, protecting Social Security, a full employment economy, national healthcare and economic justice.
