The Real Education for Healthy Youth Act (HR 3324/S 1782) was introduced in November 2011 by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) and is a state-grant initiative that would provide young people with the comprehensive sexuality education they need to make informed, responsible, and healthy decisions. Specifically, the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act also supports programs that:
-are evidence-based and incorporate characteristics of effective programs proven to change sexual behavior in young people; -include medically accurate and developmentally appropriate information; -promote educational achievement, critical thinking, decision-making, and self-efficacy; -foster leadership skills and community involvement; -are culturally and linguistically appropriate; and -are inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual students.
