Dear Friend,

It's hard to believe but it has been almost ten years since we started NC Policy Watch to both counter the state's large, well-fund funded conservative "think tanks" that were increasingly dominating the state public policy debate and to hold the politicians who did their bidding accountable.

Back then we were demanding that the folks in power pay more attention to how the most vulnerable people in our state were being treated and how pay-to-play politics stymies the aspirations of our great state.

We are still demanding it today, though a lot has changed, both in the state's capital and here at N.C. Policy Watch.

We are now a seven-person special project of the North Carolina Justice Center and produce dozens of compelling news stories and no-holds-barred commentaries every week that are distributed to a large and growing audience of hundreds of thousands via our websites, email, social media, a radio network and the traditional news media.

It was NC Policy Watch investigative reporter Sarah Ovaska who broke the "salary-gate" story that's dominated state policy debate in recent weeks. Policy Watch education reporter Lindsay Wagner has quickly become the state's most important tracker of cuts to public education and the crusade to privatize our schools. And courts and law reporter Sharon McCloskey first documented a cynical new law allowing the state Supreme Court to hear ethics complaints against its own membership.

We want to continue and expand our aggressive reporting and thoughtful commentaries about the dangerous new direction in Raleigh these days, but we need your help.

We are trying to raise $30,000 by the end of the year. Will you help us reach this goal by making a tax-deductible contribution today?

Any contribution is appreciated, and those who contribute $100 or more will receive a NC Policy Watch coffee mug to use while you scan our morning headlines and commentaries.
