Tell Trader Joe's to Label GMOs & Join the Fight to Make GMO Labels Mandatory!

As a Trader Joe's customer, I'd like to thank you for offering many organic and other non-GMO choices in your stores. It makes shopping a little easier to know that all of your store-brand products are made without genetically engineered ingredients.

However, many of the products you sell contain unlabeled genetically engineered ingredients: Laughing Cow, Barbara's Bakery, ReddiEgg, Annie Chun's, and Tofutti, to name a few.

As the 10th anniversary of Trader Joe's brand's GMO-free pledge is celebrated this month, I hope the company will mark the occasion by expanding your commitment to GMO-free options and respecting consumers' right to know when products contain GMO ingredients.

Trader Joe's should take a stand in favor of mandatory GMO labels and support the California "Label GMOs" 2012 ballot initiative effort. It is a shame that the problem with the lack of labels on GMO food must fall on retailers. It would be much better if GMO labels were mandatory by law in the U.S. as they are in much of the rest of the global marketplace.

Trader Joe's could support the campaign by voluntarily removing products containing GMO ingredients from their shelves, donating to the ballot initiative, or doing something as simple as making it company policy to allow campaigners to gather signatures at your California stores. Please take action for a GMO-free future!
