Stop Monsanto's Attack on Democracy

Dear Organic Consumer,

For decades, Monsanto went about patenting seeds, gene-splicing foreign proteins, bacteria and viruses into our food, buying off politicians and scientists, and contaminating the environment with evermore toxic chemicals.

Now, because people like you are fighting back, Monsanto and Big Food are trying to take away your right to protect your community from the onslaught of GMO-related toxins, and your state’s right to pass something as basic as a GMO labeling law.

We are nearing our deadline to raise $200,000 to keep GMO bans and GMO labeling laws alive, and collect another $200,000 in matching funds. Can you help us raise another $9,000 by midnight tonight? Click here for how to donate online, or by phone or email.

Last October, Oregon lawmakers passed a biotech industry-friendly law, SB 863. We call it Oregon's "Monsanto Protection Act" because it strips counties of the right to say "no" to GMO crops.

Thankfully, activists in Jackson County, Ore. had already qualified a citizens' initiative to ban GMO crops in their county. The initiative, which will be on the ballot in May, means Jackson County still has a chance at protecting its organic farmers from GMO contamination.

Other Oregon counties, including Joesephine, Lane and Benton, are forging ahead with proposed bans despite SB 863. Citizens in Benton County have drafted an initiative that would not only ban the planting of GMOs, but would also directly challenge SB 863 by asserting the county’s fundamental right to self-government.

These four county initiatives, plus a proposed statewide ballot initiative to require mandatory labeling of foods that contain GMO ingredients in Oregon, need our help. Especially now that the FDA has confirmed that it rejects the notion of mandatory labels on GMOs, and instead proposes a weak, watered-down, Monsanto-friendly plan for voluntary labeling.

Monsanto and Big Food are so desperate they’ve had to resort to passing repressive state and municipal laws that take away your fundamental right to protect your community from dangerous toxins. And they're spending millions lobbying the FDA and Congress to take away states' rights to pass GMO labeling laws.

It’s our job to keep them desperate. We do that by keeping the pressure on.

We need mandatory labels on GMOs so we can drive them off the market. Once we’ve accomplished this monumental task, we can focus our attention on the entire system of industrial agriculture and factory farming, moving forward, as quickly as possible, to a healthy, sustainable and organic food and farming system.

I look forward to the day when people like you don’t have to dig into your pockets to protect your basic rights. But until that day comes, our only shot at winning the food fight of our lives is to keep showing up on the frontlines.

Please donate by midnight tonight. Every donation, no matter how large or small, will bring us closer to our goal of $200,000—and that much closer to matching funds from Mercola.com and Dr. Bronner’s.

The money we raise during this campaign will go toward passing state GMO labeling laws and county bans on GMO crops. Every win, no matter what state, no matter what county, is a win for you and your family.

Thank you!
