Take Action: Refining dirtier oil threatens our health AND safety
Big Oil is planning to import lower quality crude oil (tar sands) via rail, ship and pipeline to be refined at Bay Area refineries.
Refining dirtier oil produces far more pollutants. Dirtier crude quickly corrodes and eats away at refining machinery, making refineries more prone to industrial accidents. And as we’ve seen recently in Canada, rail transport of low-quality crude can be terribly hazardous to near-by communities.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) who has the power to protect regional air quality and should immediately intervene. Sign the petition below and help move the Air District to adopt community/refinery worker demands to prevent the hazards related to refining dirtier crude oil. Learn more.
