Maryland: House Committee Fails to Act on Measure to Tax and Regulate Marijuana

Members of the Maryland House Committee on the Judiciary failed to vote on House Bill 1453 prior to the end of the 2013 legislative session. House Bill 1453 sought to legalize and regulate the adult use of marijuana. The Committee held a public hearing on the measure on Tuesday, March 19 with representatives from NORML, MPP, NAACP, LEAP, and the ACLU testifying in favor of the measure, but leadership never called it for a vote.

You can read the text of NORML’s written testimony in favor the measure here.

NORML wishes to thank those of you who contacted your state lawmakers in support of this legislation.  Over 5,000 Maryland voters generated letters via NORML’s ‘Take Action Center’ in support of HB 1453 and we anticipate lawmakers will revisit this issue in 2014.
