Crucial Conversation: Why unions are good for business and "right-to-work" laws aren't

An NC Policy Watch Crucial Conversation luncheon:

Why unions are good for business and "right-to-work" laws aren't

Featuring the Secretary Treasurer of the national AFL-CIO, Liz Shuler

Register below

Co-sponsored by North Carolina AFL-CIO.

North Carolina has long been a stronghold of anti-labor union sentiment. Interestingly, it is also a state that features vast economic chasms between have and have nots and in which working families have long struggled to make ends meet and to obtain decent wages and benefits.

Liz Schuler, Secretary Treasurer of the AFL-CIO

Now, amazingly enough, conservatives in the General Assembly are advancing legislation to push workers even further down by decimating the state unemployment insurance system and enacting a constitutional amendment that would permanently enshrine the state's so-called "right-to-work" law.

What will these changes mean? And what would happen if they were rejected?

Come and hear the answers to these and other timely questions with Liz Shuler.

Liz Shuler was elected AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer in September 2009, the youngest person ever to become an officer of the AFL-CIO. Shuler previously was the highest-ranking woman in the Electrical Workers (IBEW) union, serving as the top assistant to the IBEW president since 2004. In 1993, she joined IBEW Local 125 in Portland, Ore., where she worked as an organizer and state legislative and political director. In 1998, she was part of the IBEW’s international staff in Washington, D.C., as a legislative and political representative.

Don't miss this important opportunity to hear from this powerful and important voice for working families.
